"My poets come from Rock'n'Roll. When younger I'd always been motivated more by sound and tunes. The likes of Bob Marley and Strummer made me also take notice of the power of a song's words. RANDY TWIGG HAS A NEW SPIN ON WHAT USED TO BE CALLED RIOTT GRRRL ...

This woman embodies what I can proudly hope is the future of Riot Grrrl (because I think the genre may have died out or morphed into some commercial nonsense). I guess Peaches had something going for a spell with her XXX electro ... Anyway, enough with the commentary let's talk about Randy Twigg!!!

Ride the Fourth-wave with Berlin-based "Post-Apocalyptic Yacht Rocker" and one woman show Randy Twigg. Live, all she needs is a bass guitar and a laptop to shake you up and make you dance. And somehow you even get this "I feel like headbanging" urge when you are at one of her shows. Very interesting energy.

Her music is gritty yet melodic and at moments can be quite dark in a cleverly humorous way. She does it all herself and is a tough, sexy, female force you want unleashed upon you. ( Miss. Twigg makes Deborah Harry circa 1980 look like a pussy. No offense to Blondie at all. )

If I had to "classify" the roots that influence Twigg's music it would range from Punk, Technopunk and 1990's Industrial to Electro. Though there also seems to be a tinge of Grunge (not to be mistaken with alternative rock) present as well in a good way.

At the end of 2008 she put out a record under her name titled "Undone". She just returned from a tour in France and is not stopping.

I am waiting for Kill Rock Stars or Simple Social Graces Discos to get an earful of her!

Randy Twigg is also the bassist and female vocalist for the band Mt. Sims formerly known as Mount Sims.

The documentary ON/OFF: Mark Stewart - from The Pop Group to the Maffia by Tøni Schifer will be gracing selected cinemas and film festivals. The film retraces the singer's steps and paths from the early days of The Pop Group right up to the present. Schifer, who followed Mark around for a full two years, has crafted a detailed, often intimate portrait of the artist, supplemented by interviews with a. o. Mark Stewart himself, Adrian Sherwood, Daniel Miller (Mute), Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, Keith LeBlanc, Douglas Hart (The Jesus & Mary Chain), Fritz Catlin (23 Skidoo), Jon Spencer, Gareth Sager (The Pop Group, Rip Rig and Panic) and many others, plus live recordings and music clips. The DVD will be released by Monitorpop in 2009.

The ON/OFF film premiere is scheduled for April 24, 2009 in London at The East End Film Festival.

"I am an independant musician, poet and painter. In terms of my own artistic development I am constantly writing poems and musically I am about to embark on a DIY garage inspired EP / CD. I will make around 200 copies and create the covers by hand and distribute to them to friends, family and anyone who contacts me via myspace... give a copy to someone passing by on the street who I think might dig it... I don't particularly care for money or notoriety. I'm just happy to do what I do.

Over the years I have recorded 4 cds in this DIY manner and distributed the recordings in a similar style as above. I have over 200 songs recorded ranging in different styles. However, the garage punk is the one that seems to interest people the most.

Poetry has always played an important role in my life. I use it as an emotional punch bag which allows me to express my true feelings and rage against everything. I have made about 7 chapbooks of poetry over the years. I leave them on trains in the London underground. I planted the books around and really enjoyed doing it. A few people have emailed me back saying they found one of them and that they dug the poetry.

I have not painted for a while because I went mad for a spell. And in a depressed state set fire to nearlly all my paintings. I have kept a few though. Like my music and poems, the paintings are primitive and based on gut emotion. I really like the Fauve movement because the artists used colours to express their souls. The movement was wild and totally against the norms of the time. I find their work highly overlooked as an art genre.

Art seems like it is a dying part of society. Most things considered anti-establishment are now part of establishment. The mass consumer culture has sort of killed off true creativity and artistry. It even kills it off in a sneaky fashion by completely making fools of those who consider themselves cool and so on. It is madness really. The term and concept "Art" seems shit today. I'd rather not prostitute myself even for the sake of a penny. I would much rather create for myself and don't really give a fuck if it is heard or not. Also, I would much rather deal with others who share the same DIY sense of ethics that I do. That's why I decided to respond to your interview and questions. "

Paul:

"I'm currently reading 2 books: The Room by Hubert Selby Jr. and Liber Null and Psychonaut by Philip J. Carroll. The 2nd book is about occult magic known as chaos magic. As well as being interested in the arts I'm heavily into occultism... but, not like how a goth or metal head is into it. More like how Joe Meek was into the occult."

4-Visual artist/writer/music/film you feel inspired by right now?

Paul:

"I'm pretty much inspired by a French singer called Barbara at the moment. I found an EP of hers for £1 in a charity shop thinking it would be like Francoise Hardy. But, it's not like Francoise at all. When listening with fresh ears the songs just seem like french piano music. Though once you read about the terrible life Barbara had and you actually start understanding the French lyrics you realize she was a genius and an unknown lyrical genius at that. The thing with Barbara is she was a French Jew during the war and spent most of her childhood in hiding from the Nazis. Her Father used to abuse her. She even wrote a song about being abused by her father when she was 10 years old. I highly recommend people to check out her youtube stuff because she was an amazingly beautiful person, singer, and gifted soul."

5-First record/cassette tape you ever bought?

Paul:

"The first cassette I bought on my own (venturing away from my parent's tastes in music) was "Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space". It was 1997 and I was 12 years old. That album holds a special place in my soul."

6-Record labels you miss?

Paul:

"I simply miss people putting out records themselves. No one really does it anymore which is a shame because the people who aren't signed to labels are probably better than those signed."

7-What are you working on right now?

Paul:

"Musically I'm working on a 6 track CD / EP. In March, I aim to make a proper start on songs. It's just a pain home recording at times because I don't own drums, so I miss out on good drum sounds. I record in my parent's bathroom because I can get good reverb in there. The songs I have lined up for this EP are going to be in a jangly garage punk style almost bordering on a folky punk sound."

8-Bands/musicians you wish would get back together and not put out a crappy new record?

Paul:

"It would be amazing if Spacemen 3 reformed. Spacemen 3 were the only band I listened to throughout my teenage years. I saw My Bloody Valentine reform and didn't really like their reformation. The other week I saw the Buzzcocks and that was the most awful gig I have ever been to. It would be good if The Milkshakes reformed with their original line up...But, let's face it bands that reform are usually just doing it for money and they always suck."

9-Musician who died that you wish you could bring back from the grave?

Paul:

"Probably Syd Barrett. Just imagine if he did an acoustic album during his reclusive years... what would it have sounded like?"

Paul:

"I have loads of favourite lyrics. But, for now I'll mention two songs with brilliant lyrics..."

" "The Rest Is Noise" by Alex Ross. A pretty thick and difficult to read volume about history and music starting with our dear Teutonics Wagner to Mahler, Debussy, Berg to my fellow Finn Jean Sibelius and so on... There are lots more composers to come. It tries to explain the vibe of the times and why the compositions sound the way they do in their historical and political backgrounds. It’s a cool book and if you spend some extra cash you get it with an 8 CD box-set. I didn’t but, you can get samples on wikipedia or check your grand parents' record collection."

Khan:

"Paul McCarthy “The Painter”. I feel like this all the time and it makes me laugh!"

Khan:

"My First cassette tape was Les Humphrey Singers. It could have been the "Mexico" album. I was so into it. First album I ever got was "Darkside Of The Moon" from my brother with my first record player. A yellow-battery-powered-pick-nick-turntable. The first album I bought was "Grapes of Wrath" by Spear of Destiny. They sound so dated now. Damn, but all the more respect to them for Theatre Of Hate."

6- Record labels you miss?

Khan:

" I got my own now (I’m Single Records) and since they don’t pay advances anymore I don’t really give a shit. I miss Lux Interior !!!"

7- What are you working on right now?

Khan:

"As I mentioned before we are working on a couple of Khan Of Finland disco-dub tracks. We are finishing a 12" soon and will be working on a new live set and album to be released later this year. I have a project called: "Audio Porn" that deals with pornography leaving the visual part out. Listen to get hard! It definitely has some advantages. Otherwise I study Turkish singing at the Turkish Conservatory here in Berlin and try to walk around more in the fresh air."

IN REMEMBRANCE OF PYLON GUITARIST RANDY BEWLEY

"Pylon guitarist Randy Bewley died this afternoon after suffering a heart attack while driving in an Athens neighborhood Monday.

Bewley was driving on Barber Street on Monday evening, and his van drifted off the road and tipped over, bandmate Vanessa Hay said in an e-mail to supporters.

He died shortly before 5 p.m.

Bewley and bassist Michael Lachowski founded Pylon in Athens in 1978, and quickly recruited drummer Curtis Crowe and Hay — then Vanessa Briscoe — as vocalist. The band debuted in 1979, releasing three albums, and disbanded in November 1991 — after a farewell performance at the 40 Watt, according to the All-Music Guide.

The band reunited for a New Year’s Day performance in 2005 and has been playing local dates and touring on and off since then."

MT. SIMS FORMERLY MOUNT SIMS NEW MUSIC VIDEO "GRAVE"

"Mt. Sims and Hungry Eye Records just released a new music video for the staggering song "Grave," which you can find on the albums Happily Ever After as well as on the A Grave EP. It was filmed in the abandoned Spreepark in Berlin (October 2008). Directed by Bart Grieb and Matt Sims' long-time collaborator Echo Danon.

Mt. Sims returns to form after relocating from LA to Berlin with his eagerly anticipated third full length. Now with a new moniker-- "Mt. Sims" replacing "Mount Sims"-- and a full band with Randy Twigg and Andre Lange, Mt. Sims drops 12 new songs that bristle with nervous energy. Merging his signature electronic style with stark post-punk textures as first unveiled on his second album Wild Light, Happily Ever After's songs showcase the new band's versatility. From the cabaret rave-up of "Playing for Keeps" to the melodramatic dirge of "Love's Revenge" and the raging death-disco of "the Bitten Bite Back", the band is flanked by guest appearances of Jessie Evans(Vanishing/ Autonervous) and Toby Dammit (Swans, Iggy Pop). To the delight of his followers, Mt. Sims strays far from the formula of "How We Do", as proved by the earlier release of a single for "Grave" on 12" format.

One of my favorite bands from "Chain Reaction" through "Love By the Seasons!"

"APB formed in 1979 in the small rural town of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Ignoring their remote location the band took inspiration from the punk do it yourself ethic of the burgeoning independent music scene. With a hard-working approach to writing, rehearsing and performing, George Cheyne (drums), Glenn Roberts (guitar) and Iain Slater (bass, vocals) became an exciting young band..." And it just gets better and better!

Young American Recordings re released a 20th anniversary edition of "Something To Believe In" with a 2nd disc of previously unreleased live tracks and studio recordings. In March 2006 Young American also released the complete BBC sessions cd, which features all the John Peel sessions from the early 80s.

Having reformed in 2006 and following their return to the New York metro area apb now release 'Three' a new 14 track cd on their own Red River Records."

MARK BOOMBASTIK HAS A BEAUTIFUL MOUTH AND A NEW SPIN ON BEAT BOXING

I met Mark Boombastik after one of his shows in Berlin, Germany. He's a beatboxer but, not in the traditional sense. His music stretches far beyond the reach of rap or hip hop. You can't really place his work into any specific genre which is what makes it so interesting. It's a mix of techno, punk, early industrial, experimental and noise music combined with his "very raw, tight beats" and intense screams. His lyrics are punk and full of rebellious subtext. Live, this one man analogue band will shake you to the core.

He also collaborates with Khan of Finland among many other Berlin based musicians that deserve much respect. Khan aka Can Oral aka "the man who never rests has recently launched a 12" record label called I'M SINGLE RECORDS as a new platform for him and his world wide network of musicians and friends." Post about Khan coming soon...

Boombastik is featured as a solo artist on Khan's label: PUTZEN PLUS REMIXES .

"The first official release from Los Angeles band Sleepmask. Three handcrafted dreams and nightmares produced by Billy Mohler (War Tapes, Jimmy Chamberlain Complex), Ming Vauze and Sleepmask; recorded, mixed and mastered by Edward Monsef at The Hacienda."

Sleepmask was featured in Germany's Gothic Magazine (issue 62) as "best unsigned band" recently. I couldn't agree more.

"Run" is my favorite track. So happy it made the cut. The lyrics are heartbreaking and honest. MV mixes the personal and the abstract. "Red fox on white snow" gets to me everytime.

Ming Vauze has also performed, written and worked with Faculty X, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Mount Sims aka Mt. Sims just to name a few bands.

He also works on the So Does The Fire recording project. We are preparing a video shoot for the track "Adult" with Director Bart Grieb. Also hoping to finish recording our old tracks...it's only been about 5 or 6 years of procrastination.
